Position: Legal Advisor (80677520)

The Legal Advisor will act as a proactive partner to the business, offering legal insights while driving operational success, minimizing legal risks, and supporting long-term growth. The Legal Advisor will collaborate closely with various business areas to mitigate legal risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the facility’s day-to-day operations, major projects, and dispute resolution. This position will also provide legal counsel to senior management, oversee external counsel, ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements, and advise on public communications and sponsor ships to prevent conflicts of interest.

Tasks

& Responsibilities
  • Serve as the trusted legal expert, providing proactive, sound, and pragmatic legal advice to senior management and various business areas on matters including operations, contracts, regulatory compliance, environmental issues, and dispute resolution.
  • Minimize and mitigate legal risks by offering strategic solutions and collaborating with external counsel on complex legal matters when necessary.
  • Lead the review, negotiation, and drafting of contracts and master supply/service agreements, ensuring alignment with internal policies, risk management protocols, and applicable legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure contracts align with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement resolution strategies, working with internal and external counsel as necessary, to protect the organization’s interests.
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of legal and corporate compliance programs, focusing on areas such as HR, environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and industry-specific compliance.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes, advising business areas on necessary adjustments to remain compliant with evolving laws.
  • Assist with documenting, testing, and maintaining SOX controls and procedures, ensuring legal and operational processes meet the standards required of a publicly traded company.
  • Oversee and collaborate with the Public Relations & Communications Manager to ensure external communications align with legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide legal guidance on public-facing communications related to legal matters, sustainability initiatives, environmental compliance, and corporate social responsibility, ensuring messaging is accurate, legally sound, and in line with company values.
  • Work with CEO to manage and approve sponsor ships and donations, ensuring alignment with the company’s legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, while proactively identifying and preventing potential conflicts of interest.
  • Delivering training to the business teams on a variety of legal and compliance related matters.
  • Actively participating and supporting international legal initiatives of Arcelor Mittal. Regularly sharing best practices, new challenges or developments, innovations and efficiency related projects.
  • Ensure adherence to Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and requirements, with a commitment to continuous improvement toward achieving a zero-harm and zero-environmental-impact workplace.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to support and contribute to the facility’s overall operational and strategic success.
Qualifications
  • J.D. with admission to the State Bar of Texas or must be qualified to "waive-in" as in-house counsel under the rules of the Texas Supreme Court.
  • MBA or BS in Business Administration is preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience on a wide range of legal matters
  • Knowledge of environmental and/or energy law will be considered as a plus
  • Expertise or familiarity with the following areas of law: contracts, dispute resolution, claims management, and compliance
  • The willingness and capability to analyze and solve complex legal issues.
  • The willingness to develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with Arcelor Mittal, Arcelor Mittal’s businesses, its people, markets, facilities and customers.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate in an international environment, with various stakeholders.
  • Stress-resistant, flexible and open to embracing changes (future forward looking mentality).
