Overview

Maintenance Technician-Streets role at City of Portland, Texas. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drains, and vector control. Assess worksites for damage or needed repairs, completing maintenance and repairs by operating heavy equipment and machinery such as a backhoe, excavator, dump truck, roller, forklift, and following safety standards to ensure safe working conditions at all times.

May work overtime and perform other duties as required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, storm drains, and vector control.
  • Assess worksites for damage and determine needed repairs.
  • Operate heavy equipment and machinery such as a backhoe, excavator, dump truck, roller, forklift, front end loader, and jackhammer; follow safety standards.
  • Work overtime and perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • One year of documented experience in operating heavy equipment and machinery such as a backhoe, dump truck, gradall roller, vacuum truck, forklift, front end loader, and jackhammer.
  • Must be able to work in different levels of confined spaces as required.
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift 100 pounds in the course of a work day.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather including extreme heat and cold with extended periods of time exposed to the outside elements.
  • This position is considered essential and attendance is mandatory in the event of a storm, disaster or other catastrophic event.
Special Requirements
  • Two to three years’ of experience in operating equipment such as a backhoe, single axle dump truck and street sweeper preferred.
  • Texas Department of Agriculture Noncommercial Political Subdivision Pesticide Applicator License preferred.
