- Oversight on all construction projects, including new builds and retrofit projects, across U.S. and Atlantic Canada. Ensure successful project execution within scope, schedule, and budget.
- Lead teams responsible for construction, maintenance, and renovations for new and existing retail sites (900 locations).
- Serve as technical authority for engineering and construction decisions. Direct and approve all technical designs, signoffs, and site inspections. Develop solutions for technical challenges and ensure quality workmanship.
- Oversee 80-100 contractors per new to industry (NTI) project during design and construction phases. Maintain compliance with safety regulations and enforce standards, including authority to halt work if necessary. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including landlords, developers, and real estate leads.
- Review site layouts, building locations, environmental and geotechnical considerations. Oversee development of civil/site plans, building designs, and construction documents. Provide detailed construction estimates and recommend value-engineering solutions for cost savings.
- Secure permits and approvals by working with city/town/state officials and local authorities. Represent the company at commission meetings and maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies.
- Manage capital and operating budgets for construction and maintenance across retail operations. Partner with Senior Manager, Cost Control, to develop a five-year capital plan. Oversee repairs and maintenance budgets (capital and expense).
- Lead the Management of Change (MOC) process for the construction team. Establish and monitor project schedules; conduct post-project reviews for continuous improvement. Manage change orders, contract compliance, and negotiations with architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Manage and develop direct reports, providing guidance, approvals, and disciplinary actions as needed. Create and execute long-term project plans and strategies for retail operations.
- Provide senior leadership with regular updates on project status. Collaborate with Brand and Innovation teams to implement sustainability initiatives. Conduct regular site visits to retail locations and potential growth sites.
Skills:
- Leadership experience, leading direct reports as well as projects and contractors on multi-construction sites
- Strong knowledge of permitting, compliance, and safety regulations
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage large budgets and drive cost-saving initiatives.
- Experienced liaison with Government bodies
- Strong financial acumen
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field (master's preferred). Professional designation is a minimum requirement
- 10+ years of experience in commercial construction project management, preferably in retail or multi-site operations
- LEED AP Accredited Professional for New Building Construction and Major Renovations - considered an asset
