Job Summary and Qualifications

The EMT’s primary responsibility is responding to Intra/Inter-Facility Transports. The EMT functions within the Emergency Department as a team with Physicians, Registered Nurses and Physicians Assistants. The EMT will adhere to the Hospital's Standards of Patient Care to deliver safe, quality patient care in the Inter/Intra-Facility and Emergency Department settings. The EMT performs all treatments and procedures within the scope of EMT practice and as outlined in the Standards Manual, Protocols, Policies and Procedures and Practice Guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and caregivers/family on presentation to obtain a bio‑psycho‑social history relevant to reason for presentation.
  • Examine the patient's physical status.
  • Review all test results including EKG, lab, and x‑ray for ongoing assessment and report to physicians.
  • Reassess patient status at established time frames.
  • Complete all required documentation in both EMS Charts and Medi Tech.
  • Communicate patient needs/assessment to physicians and interdepartmental services involved in the patient's care.
  • Ensure sensitivity towards patients and caregivers/family by eliciting patients' physical and emotional concerns, being a receptive listener, and providing an environment conducive to interviewing and the delivery of care.
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate/GED.
  • Graduate of an EMT program.
  • Current licensure as an EMT in the State of New Hampshire.
  • National EMT license.
  • Valid driver’s license free from restrictions and insurable by hospital insurance company.
  • Department of Motor Vehicle Driving History Release submitted prior to employment and annually in compliance with Portsmouth Regional Hospital Driver/Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑stress work environment.
  • Ability to maintain customer‑focused interpersonal communication skills and patient confidentiality.
