Seacoast Mental Health Center is seeking full‑time Certified Peer Specialists to join our Mobile Crisis Response Team to assist individuals and families experiencing psychiatric crisis.
Responsibilities- Peer Specialist on the mobile crisis team has a strong desire to provide services in the community and in homes in a way that prevents unnecessary emergency department visits and psychiatric hospitalizations.
- Peer Specialist works in tandem with another team member to assist consumers in the community during a mental health crisis. The focus in these encounters is to use the Peer Specialist’s own life experience to engage consumers in crisis towards a shared understanding that allows for empowerment, respect and choice.
- Peer specialist is able to work as part of a supportive, multi‑disciplinary team that utilizes a range of evidence‑based treatment modalities to help individuals in crisis work towards their treatment goals. This includes working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
- As an expert in community resources, Peer Specialist can link the appropriate mental health resources that best fit the presenting problems of the consumer as well as their level of motivation and stage of change. Sometimes this linkage will involve transporting the consumer as deemed clinically appropriate by the Mobile Crisis Team Leader or Emergency Services Director to the community resource.
- Peer Specialist can keep a connection with the consumer in the community for a period after the crisis to ensure follow up with agreed upon referral sources. This not only includes follow up to determine link to resources but to continue to meet with and educate the consumer about additional mental health resources beyond the amelioration of the crisis.
- Peer Specialist will actively participate with the Mobile Team Leader and team members to establish treatment goals, parameter and services which contribute to the team increasing positive consumer outcomes in the community.
- Peer Specialist must be able to make an accurate needs assessment, and document these needs and goals onto a contact note in alignment with the current consumer crisis. This includes any progress made towards obtaining overall stability. This documentation must be completed within the standards set forth by the agency.
- Occasionally, Peer Specialists may need to work a flexible schedule to ensure continuity of care and optimal support services.
The ideal candidate will have 1‑2 years of prior experience and a current certification in peer support preferred.
