General Summary

Works under the supervision of the Manager of 340B Program. The Pharmacy 340B Coordinator's primary job function is the overall management and coordination of the pharmacy 340B program for all qualified entities within Southern Ohio Medical Center. Coordination will include assuring qualifications for participation in the program are met and maintained. The Pharmacy 340B Coordinator is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to community pharmacy medication purchases and making data-driven recommendations to the Pharmacy Supervisors and Community Pharmacy Lead Technicians on what needs purchased to maximize 340B savings.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Pharmacy related field or equivalent experience required
Licensure

Experience
  • Knowledge of health care accounting, finance and reimbursement principles required.
  • Prior Pharmacy work related experience preferred.

Specific Duties and Performance Expectations

  • Maintains 340B database to ensure database entries are complete, accurate, and auditable.
  • Analyzes purchases by account type for 340B, GPO, and WAC in order to identify cost saving opportunities and maintain program compliance.
  • Interfaces with pharmacist and staff personnel with contract pharmacies to build relationships and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Audits Contract Pharmacy claims and drugs administered in all outpatient departments of the Hospital including SOMC Family Health Centers, Provider Based Clinics, the Ambulatory Infusion Clinic (AIC), and the Cancer Center according to 340B regulations to ensure program integrity.
  • Reviews the Meditech Charge Description Master Dictionary to verify CDM numbers are linked correctly in 340B databases, verify the HCPCS codes are accurate, and Modifiers are listed correctly for each state and payer.
  • Reviews accumulations in 340B databases focusing on extremely high or negative accumulations in an effort to identify billing issues, maintenance issues, or split billing issues.
  • Performs maintenance in 340B databases to ensure CDM numbers are linked to the correct NDC number and the billing units per package are correct based on SOMC’s billing practices.
  • Completes Medicaid FFS, Medicaid MCO, or other rebills in RX30 to identify retail pharmacy claims as 340B claims and bill at the correct cost.
  • Reviews the 340B Monitor Eligibility Counts in 340B databases daily to make sure that utilization is flowing into the correct PIDs.
  • Completes manual uploads in 340B databases to correct patient charges, adds direct purchase orders, and manual adjustments.
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data on medication purchases, including quantities, prices, and suppliers to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Utilizes purchasing trends and works with the pharmacy management system’s inventory management suite to forecast future needs based on historical data.
  • Prepares reports and presentations to communicate findings to pharmacy leadership team, highlighting key insights and recommendations.
  • Works closely with suppliers to negotiate pricing, terms, and agreements to optimize purchasing processes and evaluates supplier performance to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to medication purchasing, data management, and inventory management.
  • Collaborates with pharmacy staff, finance teams, and other key stakeholders to streamline purchasing processes and improve efficiency by implementing data-driven solutions and monitoring outcomes.
