General SummaryWorks under the supervision of the Nurse Manager of the Cardiac Cath Lab. The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse's primary job function is to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individual patient care in addition to assisting the physician during the Cath procedure. Policies and procedures for the department are maintained during this period of caring for the patient. The RN accepts responsibility for the direction of co‑workers in the implementation of the plan of care.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam required.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
Licensure:
- Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required.
- BLS within 90 days of hire required.
- ACLS within 1 year of hire required.
Experience:
- Previous Cardiac Cath Lab and/or Critical Care experience preferred.
Specific Duties and Performance Expectations
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Completed nursing assessment of patients in the Cardiac Cath Lab and documents appropriately into patient record.
- Communicates and collaborates with physicians and other health team members.
- Provides and coordinates patient care with other health team members.
- Monitors patients' responses to interventions and reports outcomes.
- Administers medication and assists the physician/cardiologist during the procedure.
- Monitors and evaluates patients before, during, and post procedure.
- Shares on-call responsibilities with a 30 minute response time.
- Maintains cleanliness of rooms and adequate stock of supplies.
- Transports patients as needed.
- Reports all equipment malfunctions and performs QCAS as required.
- Assists in training newer less experienced employees.
- Pre‑cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy.
- Performs intermediate‑level disinfection and/or high‑level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacturer. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s.
