Position Overview

Operations Engineering support for the Seapower Capability Center Factory located in Portsmouth, RI. Provide support across fabrication and integration areas, technical guidance to the Manufacturing team, and manage creation and maintenance of manufacturing documentation. Participate in process improvement initiatives, establish process baseline metrics, defect prevention, and data analysis.

What You Will Do
  • Develop, maintain, and review Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, and tool/fixture designs.
  • Support a manufacturing area as part of a cross‑functional team, guiding the production team through process troubleshooting and integration of engineering changes into the MDP.
  • Disposition non‑conforming material with root cause and corrective action analysis.
  • Drive continuous improvement to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to assemblers, automate processes, and reduce costs using CORE principles and data‑driven decision making.
  • Provide real‑time technical support to manufacturers and fabricators in‑house and at the supply base.
  • Lead corrective action investigations to prevent recurrence.
  • Travel may be required for this position.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • DoD Clearance:
    Secret.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Power point, Project, Word, etc.).
  • Proven written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Self‑motivated and results‑oriented individual with ability to work in a team environment and with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on mechanical aptitude with ability to work across disciplines.
  • Innovative mindset that drives continuous improvement and keeps pace with advances in technology.
  • Excellent organizational skills with fine attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of ANSI J‑STD‑001.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and/or DFMA principles and methods.
  • Technical drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools (preferred CREO/ProE) and/or simulation tools.
  • Experience designing, programming, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated tooling and machinery.
  • Experience with refurbishment/repair or warranty requirements and processing of Government Furnished Material (GFM) or Equipment (GFE).
  • Experience in transducer and sensor assembly (mechanical assembly/bonding/potting/molding).
  • Development of specialized tooling (jigs, fixtures, packaging).
  • Experience with military and industry standards.
  • Experience developing manufacturing processes for undersea products.
  • Experience developing work cell layouts.
  • Conducting safety/ergonomic assessments.
  • Experience with MRL and TRL (Manufacturing Readiness Level and Technology Readiness Level) assessments.
  • Solid understanding of configuration management practices.
  • Experience with cable and harness fabrication, including crimping requirements.
  • Experience with electromechanical integration of part assemblies, including cable and harness routing techniques.
  • Familiarity with standard material handling practices, especially with respect to Electrostatic Discharge mitigation requirements.
  • Experience with the implementation of lifting and movement requirements for various sized assemblies and equipment.
  • Familiarity with Paint, Plating, Chromate / Chemical conversion processes.
  • Experience with programming and operation of CNC machinery and other metal fabrication tooling.
  • Active DoD security clearance.
