FOOD SERVICE WORKER/CASHIER
We are hiring immediately for an on‑call FOOD SERVICE WORKER/CASHIER position at Portsmouth Public Schools located at 29 Middle Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871. Applications are accepted online only.
Schedule: On‑call Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Pay Range: $17.80 to $18.30 per hour.
Requirement: Prior food service and cashier experience is preferred.
Internal Employee Referral Bonus: Available.
Performs cashiering duties and general food service work while maintaining sanitation standards in preparation, service, and dining facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform prep work such as washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding fruits and vegetables; weigh and measure designated ingredients.
- Carry pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator in accordance with safety standards; distribute supplies, utensils, and portable equipment.
- Store foods in designated areas using wrapping, dating, and food safety and rotation procedures.
- Clean work areas, equipment, and utensils.
- Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety requirements.
- Use approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures, and standard portion control.
- Serve customers efficiently following outlined steps of service.
- Interact with customers and resolve complaints in a friendly, service‑oriented manner.
- Relay relevant information to supervisor.
- Perform sales transactions: enter sales on the cashier, make change, accept declining balance cards and other acceptable payment methods, issue receipts, and follow standard procedures for cash refunds.
- Maintain compliance of cash drawer with overdrafts/shortages standards.
- Replenish condiments, beverages, and general supplies while maintaining service area cleanliness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
