Consultant Urological Surgeon With an Interest in Robotic Prostatectomy

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, forward‑thinking consultant with expertise in the comprehensive management of prostate cancer, from diagnosis to robotic prostatectomy.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will have experience in minimally invasive robotic surgery and will further develop their expertise in robotic prostatectomy under the mentorship of colleagues within the department. They will be responsible for further developing and delivering the pathway for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, alongside the expanding workforce of prostate‑cancer specialist nurses and nurse consultants.
Effective communication and teamwork within a multidisciplinary team are essential. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the national profile of the department through publications and presentations at international meetings.
Consultants currently participate in a Consultant of the Week rota on a 1:9 basis, fully supported by a 24‑hour middle‑grade tier and a Hospital at Night Team.

Job ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will have experience in the provision of minimally invasive robotic surgery and will develop expertise in robotic prostatectomy with mentorship. They will be responsible for further developing and delivering the pathway for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, alongside our expanding workforce of specialist nurses and nurse consultants. Effective communication and teamwork within a multidisciplinary team are vital.
The successful candidate will also contribute to increasing the national profile of the department through publications and presentations at international meetings. Consultants take part in a Consultant of the Week rota on a 1:9 basis, fully supported by a 24‑hour middle grade tier and a Hospital at Night Team.
- Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge
- Knowledge and use of evidence‑based practice
- Effective, confident presentation ability
- Experience in and outside speciality
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Publications
- Prizes and honours
- Logical thinking, problem solving and decision making
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Higher professional training in urology
- Current entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT or CESR (or anticipated entry within 6 months)
- Skilled in the delivery of robotic surgery
- Ability to perform trans‑perineal fusion prostate biopsy
- Demonstrable skills and experience in general urology
- Understanding of clinical risk management
