Overview
The School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences seeks to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology, ideally qualified to PhD level (Senior Lecturer) or Postgraduate level (Lecturer) and with relevant postgraduate experience. While the disciplinary background is flexible (e.g. Pharmacology, Physiology or a related science), expertise that bridges fundamental Pharmacology with translational or clinical application - such as drug discovery, development or clinical evaluation would be particularly welcomed.
The successful candidate will have a record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and, ideally, experience of securing research funding and will contribute actively to the School’s strong teaching and research profile.

The postholder will teach across a range of programmes including BSc (Hons) Pharmacology, MPharm (Hons) Pharmacy and BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, and will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching, learning and assessment. You will be collaborative, motivated, and keen to contribute to a supportive academic environment.
We are looking to appoint either a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology. Please specify in your application whether you are applying for the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer role. Both roles have a separate job description.
Qualifications and RequirementsPharmacology or related discipline; postgraduate qualifications to enable Lecturer or Senior Lecturer appointment. For Senior Lecturer, a PhD is preferred. A track record of publication in peer‑reviewed journals and, ideally, experience of securing research funding is expected. The role minimises any ambiguity about the required level by stating the two grade options and respective expectations.

Working ArrangementsWhilst there is a need to be in Portsmouth a few days a week, hybrid working is available for this role.
