Are you a passionate and resilient educator looking to make a meaningful impact in a specialist setting? Supply Desk are seeking a committed SEN Teacher to join a small, supportive provision in Portsmouth, working with students who have significant SEMH needs.

About the Provision

This specialist provision is part of a wider Special School and Alternative Provision setting that supports children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, as well as those unable to access mainstream education.

The school provides:

A nurturing, highly supportive environment where students with SEMH can thrive emotionally and academically.
Small class sizes (typically 1–5 students) to allow personalised support and relationship‑based teaching.
A curriculum designed to promote emotional intelligence, resilience, and meaningful qualifications, helping learners re-engage with education and prepare for Post‑16 pathways.
Students are aged 11–16, many with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), requiring a highly structured, emotionally informed approach to learning.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to deliver English and Maths to small groups of 1–5 students with SEMH needs. You will be supported by an experienced Teaching Assistant in every lesson.

Your responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering adaptive English and Maths lessons
Building strong, trusting relationships with highly vulnerable learners
Supporting emotional regulation, resilience and engagement
Creating a safe, structured and therapeutic learning environment
Working collaboratively with pastoral and SEN teams to meet students' individual needs

What We’re Looking For

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant SEN teaching experience
Experience working with SEMH students (desirable but not essential)
Ability to remain calm, consistent and nurturing
Strong behaviour regulation and de-escalation skills
Excellent communication and a restorative, trauma-informed approach

Benefits of Working with Supply Desk

Competitive rates of pay
A dedicated consultant offering ongoing support
Access to training and CPD, including SEMH and behaviour support
Long-term and permanent opportunities available
£100 referral bonus for recommending a friend
