Shape Futures Through Personalised Learning
We're looking for a GCSE English Tutor to support children and young people across Portsmouth, Southampton, and the surrounding Hampshire areas.
Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll provide 1:1 tuition to learners who require alternative educational provision. Many of the students you'll support have experienced barriers to education and benefit from a tailored approach that helps rebuild confidence, improve attainment, and prepare for GCSE success.
Whether students are working towards their exams, catching up on missed learning, or re-engaging with education, you'll play an important role in helping them achieve their goals.

Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour
Type: 1:1 Tuition
Requirements
Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, teaching assistant, learning support, mentoring, or similar roles
Strong knowledge of GCSE English
Experience delivering or supporting English lessons
Ability to adapt learning to suit different abilities and learning styles
Experience supporting students with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Patient, engaging, and flexible approach
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally across Portsmouth, Southampton, and surrounding areas
The Learners
You'll support students with a range of needs, including:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
ADHD
Anxiety and school avoidance
EHCPs and additional educational needs
Each placement is different, providing an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through personalised support and relationship-led learning.
