Science Teacher
A thriving secondary academy in Portsmouth, Hampshire, is seeking an inspiring Science Teacher to join its STEM faculty on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.
Job OverviewScience is a core priority within this academy's academic development strategy. The successful applicant will deliver practical and theoretical Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE Combined & Separate Science), with opportunities to teach A-Level Biology, Chemistry, or Physics depending on subject specialism.
Working alongside a collaborative STEM team and experienced laboratory technicians, you will guide pupils through safe laboratory experimentation, data analysis, and examination preparation. This is a full-time, permanent position starting in January.
Key Responsibilities- Teach engaging practical and theoretical Science lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5
- Plan and execute safe laboratory experiments in full compliance with CLEAPSS health and safety standards
- Prepare pupils for GCSE and A-Level required practical assessments, data interpretation, and written examinations
- Maintain laboratory spaces, scientific equipment, and chemical inventories safely alongside department technicians
- Assess, track, and report on student progress using formal assessments, mock examinations, and classwork
- Fulfill pastoral duties as a Form Tutor, supporting student wellbeing, academic progress, and personal development
- January Start: Full-time, permanent contract commencing January
- Facilities: Purpose-built laboratory suites, fully stocked prep rooms, modern digital displays, and technician support
- Location: Prime Portsmouth location with on-site parking and excellent local transport connections
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT)
- Honors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related scientific discipline
- Proven track record (or strong potential during training) for delivering positive outcomes at GCSE and A-Level
- Strong practical laboratory skills and up-to-date knowledge of CLEAPSS laboratory safety guidelines
- An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
