The Athena Sports Group (ASG) is a high-performance sailing and marine business founded and

led by Sir Ben Ainslie. It serves as a parent entity for elite British sailing teams, including the

British America's Cup team (GB1), the 2025 champion Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team, the

Athena Pathway Programme driving the development of women and youth in elite level sailing

and the 1851 charitable trust.

About the Role

We’re growing our mechanical operations team in support of this America’s Cup challenge. This

is a unique opportunity to lead the team responsible for the build, operation, maintenance and

reliability of all onboard mechanical systems. Working closely with design, shore operations

and boat operations, you will play a key role in delivering a world-class yacht capable of

competing at the highest level of our sport.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the build, installation and operation of the yacht's mechanical and sailing systems, ensuring high levels of performance, reliability and safety.
  • Work closely with the Mechanical Lead and wider technical team to deliver the yacht to the required specification and programme.
  • Carry out planned servicing, maintenance and inspection of mechanical systems.
  • Support commissioning, testing and fault-finding both ashore and on the water.
  • Work closely with design and engineering teams to deliver technical requirements on the yacht.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, build quality and attention to detail.
  • Contribute to reliability, ERP and component lifing programmes.
  • Identify and help mitigate technical and operational risks.
  • Work with the Mechanical Lead, procurement and operations teams to maintain appropriate spares, tooling and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure effective integration of all yachtsystems.
  • Support sailing operations and provide mechanical assistance as required.
  • Be flexible to work extended hours, weekends and travel when required by the programme.
Candidate Profile
  • Experience in a similar mechanical role within high-performance sailing, motor sport oranother demanding technical environment.
  • Strong practical mechanical skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively within a small, high-performing team.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving, reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible in approach and comfortable working to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to relocate to Naples, Italy for the duration of the campaign.
  • A genuine interest in high-performance sailing and the desire to contribute to a competitive America's Cup programme
