Healthcare Nursing, Patient Care Technician
Island City Practice is looking for a dynamic and dedicated
Healthcare Assistant to join our busy Practice and Clinical Team.
Please note, we will be holding interviews for this post on Thursday 19th June 2025.
Main duties of the jobTo support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practicemultidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to theentitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver and assistclinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

We operate across 3 sites:
Lake Road Practice, Sunnyside Medical Centre and John Pounds Surgery.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate and record findings accurately.
- Facilitate round and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly.
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
- Stitch / Staple removal.
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
- Carry out BMI checks as directed.
- Act as a chaperone as required.
- When trained, undertake venepuncture.
- When trained, administer vaccinations.
- Carry out ECGs as requested.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy.
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Experience of working in a primary care environment
- Good communications skills (written and oral)
- Time management and the ability to work within a fast-paced environment
- Ability to remain calm when working under pressure
- Basic IT skills
- Analytical and data collection & collation
- Healthcare Qualification (Level
2) or working towards gaining equivalent level - Healthcare Qualification (Level 3 or
4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
