Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is currently recruiting for an experienced CNC Lathe Setter Operator to join a leading global manufacturer within the Life Sciences sector based in Portsmouth.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering team where you will play a key role in setting, proving out and operating CNC/NC lathe machinery, producing precision components to exact specifications.

Working Hours
  • 37.5 hours per week.
  • Week 1: 6am–2pm.
  • Week 2: 2pm–10pm.
Key Duties
  • Set and operate CNC/NC lathe machinery.
  • Prove out new and existing CNC programmes.
  • Programme and set machines using Fanuc or similar controls.
  • Manufacture precision components to engineering specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Carry out self-inspection using measuring equipment.
  • Record production activities accurately within internal scheduling systems.
  • Report production issues to Team Leaders.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards through daily 5S activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the machine shop.
Requirements
  • Previous experience setting and operating CNC/NC lathes.
  • Ability to prove out new CNC programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of Fanuc or similar controls.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Competence in self-inspection and quality checking using measuring equipment.
  • Experience machining stainless steel components.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work.
  • Time-served apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification.
  • Experience working within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
