Fortress Recruit is now looking for an experienced Bench Fitter / Operator to join a leading defence and marine engineering organisation.
This is a hands-on manufacturing position, working within a specialist production environment on mechanical components used across complex marine and defence applications.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Carrying out bench fitting and mechanical assembly using hand tools and manual machinery
* Deburring, cleaning and finishing mechanical components
* Lapping and grinding components using manual machinery
* Splitting and reassembling seal rings
* Bonding inserts into seal rings in accordance with defined manufacturing processes
* Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and process instructions
* Working accurately to measurements, specifications and quality requirements
* Preparing and packing finished components ready for shipping
* Working to planned production schedules and delivery targets
* Working safely in accordance with Health & Safety procedures
To be considered for this role, you'll have:
* Previous experience within an engineering, manufacturing or workshop environment
* Good practical mechanical and assembly skills
* Experience using hand tools and/or manual machinery
* The ability to read and understand engineering drawings or manufacturing instructions
* A hands-on, mechanically minded approach
* Good attention to detail and the ability to work accurately
* An understanding of Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment
* The flexibility to work across different production and assembly activities
* Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a small team
* A willingness to learn and develop additional practical skills
The business is particularly interested in candidates with strong practical engineering experience who are comfortable working with their hands, understand mechanical components and can follow detailed manufacturing processes accurately. It’s a varied workshop-based role and would suit someone from a bench fitting, mechanical assembly, workshop, engineering or manufacturing background.
Previous experience as a Bench Fitter, Mechanical Assembler, Mechanical Fitter, Workshop Operative, Production Technician or Manufacturing Operative could all be relevant.
This is a full-time, permanent position working 37 hours per week on the day shift, offering up to £30K plus annual bonus, private medical insurance and an enhanced pension scheme.
