Fortress Recruit are working with a leading engineering and marine manufacturing business to recruit a Quality Control Inspector (weekend shift) for their machine shop operation in Portsmouth.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established manufacturing environment supporting high-quality components for the marine and defence sectors, including products supplied to Navies across the globe.
The successful candidate will play a key role across a busy machine shop, inspecting seals, bearings and machined components throughout the production process to ensure products meet drawing, specification and customer requirements.
Key responsibilities:- Carry out in-process and final inspection of machined components
- Inspect components using calipers, micrometers, thread gauges and other dimensional inspection tools
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, concessions, specifications and purchase orders
- Raise non-conformances and support root cause investigations
- Complete visual, dimensional and mechanical inspections
- Work closely with QA, manufacturing, engineering and operations teams
- Support traceability records, quality packs and class visit requirements
- Release inspected parts to stores, assembly and packaging
- Support OTIF targets by ensuring proactive communication across operations teams
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health & safety
- Contribute towards continuous improvement activities
- Use SAP and MRP systems to complete transactions and maintain quality records
- Previous experience in a quality inspection role within a manufacturing, engineering or machine shop environment.
- Strong experience inspecting machined components
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
- Experience using manual inspection equipment such as micrometers, verniers and thread gauges
- Experience raising non-conformances and supporting quality investigations
- Understanding of quality systems, traceability and inspection processes
- Previous exposure to SAP or MRP systems
- A background within marine, defence, aerospace, precision engineering or general manufacturing would be highly advantageous
- A flexible and proactive approach with the ability to work across multiple teams
- Previous CMM inspection or programming experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Eligibility to gain SC clearance (5 years' UK residency with no visa or sponsorship requirement)

This role is based on site in Portsmouth, full time, permanent, 37 hours a week, on the weekend shift. On offer is a salary up to £34K plus shift uplift, bonus and benefits package.
