JAVA SOFTWARE ENGINEER

  • £55 per hour via Umbrella – Initial 12-month contract with likely extension
  • Portsmouth – Hybrid working (3 days per week on-site)
  • Join a team developing next-generation satellite management systems using Java, Spring Boot and Microservices
  • SC Clearance required | 37-hour working week
ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is a globally recognised engineering organisation delivering cutting-edge solutions across the defence and space sectors. You'll be joining an Agile software team developing innovative satellite management systems using modern Java technologies. Due to continued programme growth, they are looking for an experienced Java Software Engineer to support the delivery of this exciting project.

THE JAVA SOFTWARE ENGINEER ROLE

As a Java Software Engineer, you'll become part of a seven-person Scrum team delivering management software for a new satellite programme. You'll contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle, from design and UML modelling through to development, testing and deployment.

You’ll be developing Java-based microservices using Spring Boot, designing RESTful APIs, participating in sprint planning, estimating tasks, and helping deliver high-quality software using CI/CD pipelines and automated testing within an Agile environment.

JAVA SOFTWARE ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Commercial Java development experience (Java 8+)
  • Strong knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Framework and Hibernate
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs over HTTPS
  • Experience working within Microservices architectures
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and software design patterns
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments
  • CI/CD pipeline experience
  • Git version control and Jira U
  • ML/SysML modelling using Enterprise Architect or similar
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively
