Position: CYP Program Assistant May be eligible for 1000.00 Incentive at 6 mo. and 1 year

Overview

CYP Program Assistant position at Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR). May be eligible for a $1,000 incentive at 6 months and at 1 year.

Summary

CYP Assistants work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well-cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The day includes helping children develop social skills, make healthy choices, build self-help and school readiness skills, and explore the environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develops schedules and activity plans; ensures that program plans and activities reflect the needs of individual children and youth.
  • Implements activities and events that meet physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs; accommodates special dietary or physical requirements as provided by parents.
  • Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements; provides care as directed by the supervisor.
  • Demonstrates, instructs, leads, and facilitates planned and spontaneous activities; models developmentally appropriate practice and safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
  • Prepares indoor and outdoor environments, maintains supplies, and secures materials as needed.
  • Promotes positive interactions and maintains a program environment that sustains participant interest.
  • Provides care and supervision in accordance with DoD, DoDI 1402.05, local policies, and installation standards; ensures authorized departure of participants with appropriate supervision.
  • Conducts health and safety observations and reports concerns as required; acts as a mandatory reporter for suspected abuse or neglect.
  • Maintains professional communication with parents and staff; provides feedback on child/youth activities.
  • Assists in program assessment and evaluation using designated tools and methods.
  • Supports compliance with DoD certification, accreditation, and applicable regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Complete required training certificates; maintain certifications/credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation bodies used by DoD CY programs.
  • Pass all applicable background checks and pre-employment drug testing; adhere to DoD policy on controlled substances.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical, provide immunization evidence, and be free of communicable diseases; obtain required immunizations.
  • Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at application time.
  • Must comply with REAL  for access to installations (as applicable).
Qualifications

Entry Level (CY-1702-01)

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to complete DoN training requirements within the specified timeframe.
  • Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers; work cooperatively as part of a team.

Intermediate Level (CY-1702-01)

  • Knowledge of basic child and youth development principles; ability to implement developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Ability to interpret a curriculum or activity plan and follow written instructions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work cooperatively as a team member.
  • Six months of experience working with children or youth in a CYP setting.

Target Level (CY-1702-02)

  • Knowledge of development principles to inform program responses; ability to implement developmentally appropriate services.
  • Ability to work with children and youth individually or in groups; promote effective relationships with participants and coworkers.
  • One year of experience working with children or youth in a CYP setting.
Education
  • Must provide a copy of your high school diploma, GED, or college transcripts when you apply.
