Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of hazardous and hazmat materials from start to finish, including identifying hazardous waste, packaging, preparing shipping documents, and sending for disposal.
  • Gather samples from various projects to be analyzed in-house and with a state‑certified laboratory.
  • Perform all in‑house analysis for samples brought to our WWTP facility, such as API, flash point, spectrometry, treatability, and water content.
  • Conduct quarterly sampling of our WWTP effluent to ensure compliance with our permit.
  • Maintain all oil spill response contracts with facilities in the Hampton Roads area.
  • Respond to emergency response calls as needed and provide reporting for events that include man‑hours, equipment, and timelines.
  • Inventory response equipment as required at the facility.
  • Update U.S. Coast Guard sector manuals annually, submit for approval, document approvals, and create new sector manuals as needed.
  • Compile BOA reports for U.S. Coast Guard response jobs.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of applicable work experience.
  • Significant knowledge of environmental laws and regulations at the local, state, and federal level.
  • Background with the chemistry of hazardous materials/waste.
  • Initial and annual refresher training in hazardous management (RCRA).
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems and auditing requirements.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Background screening clearance for badges such as TWIC, DBIDS, and others.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 40‑hour HAZWOPER and annual 8‑hour refresher training.
  • U.S. DOT Hazardous Materials Training.
