Venture Dynamics is seeking a Material Planner/Estimator. The Material Planner/Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications and technical documentation to estimate material needs and coordinating the procurement process to ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery. This role requires strong collaboration with production, vendors, and internal teams to support project execution. The position may require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations.
Position may require limited travel.
Estimating Responsibilities:
- Analyze blueprints, drawings, specifications, and other documentation to develop accurate material estimates for ship repair projects.
- Identify scope of work and all job specific material requirements based on specifications and specific projects.
- Collaborate with estimating and project teams to clarify requirements and align estimates with scheduling and workload.
- Maintain material supplier directories for estimating and bidding purposes.
- Monitor ongoing projects for specification deviations that affect material needs.
- Perform data entry into the companies ERP system for estimated hours, material requirements and quotes for individual jobs.
- Prepare purchase requisitions, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, and compliance with specifications and contract requirements.
- Monitor the full life cycle of purchase orders in procurement/accounting systems. Track purchase order issuance from the Purchasing department and delivery details.
- Contact vendors to expedite deliveries, resolve delays, and communicate updates to internal stakeholders.
- Provide material status feedback to project team for schedule updates. Analyze supplier profiles and pricing to identify best‑value vendors, emphasizing local sources when possible.
- Estimate material costs associated with change orders and project scope modifications. Maintain procurement records for compliance, cost tracking, and quality assurance.
- Resolve discrepancies with defective or incorrect goods in coordination with inspection and quality teams.
- Must have a HS Diploma or equivalent and at least five (5) years of experience in shipyard, shipboard, or industrial procurement and at least two (2) years of material estimating experience.
- Must be familiar with marine vessel terminology and project specifications.
- Must have experience using procurement software.
- Must have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
- Must have excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to handle multiple projects independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of JOBBOSS and GSS ERP systems is a plus.
