Job Location: Millie Lancaster Women’s Imaging Center at Harborview (5838 Harbour View Boulevard).
Summary Of Primary Function / General Purpose Of PositionThe ultrasound technologist performs ultrasound procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner. Breast and general ultrasound experience required. Under the direction of Radiology leadership, the ultrasound tech performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures using ultrasound for the diagnosis of disease or pathology.
Essential Job Functions- Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care by evaluating the patient, verifying patient , and related information to assure appropriate procedure is performed.
- Explains procedure to patient; prepares patient for procedure by obtaining and recording patient history and consent form (if applicable).
- Ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedure; monitors patient condition and medical equipment, reporting changes to patient care services.
- Documents sonographer's impressions and relays findings to physician.
- Obtains and records images necessary to demonstrate normal and pathological findings; documents all pertinent information, such as lab values and patient histories; demonstrates and maintains clinical competency for patients ranging from newborn to geriatric as required.
- Participates in performance improvement projects.
- Assists department in achieving successful results in all federal, state, and local agency audits.
- Participates in education/instruction of students and orientation of new staff; performs high-level disinfection of probes per joint commission standards.
- Uses various ultrasound modalities dependent on the type of anatomy examined.
- Becomes proficient in recognizing cross‑sectional anatomy and understanding related technology.
- Demonstrates favorable guest relations and continues to promote hospital values in daily work performance.
- May also perform other related patient‑care duties.
- Credentialed in Ultrasound technology by RDMS, ARDMS, or ARRT (required).
- BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire; must obtain prior to direct patient care).
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Abdomen, Breast, Obstetrics/Gynecology (preferred).
Associates degree in Allied Health Ultrasound program (preferred).
Work Experience1 year experience as an Ultrasound Tech (preferred).
Training- EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred).
