Recreation Aide
Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center in Portsmouth, VA offers intensive residential treatment to youth ages 7 to 17 with various psychiatric diagnoses and developmental disabilities. We are accredited by The Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies and are licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, the Virginia Department of Education and approved by TRICARE.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Recreation Aide, you will support the therapeutic program by planning and facilitating recreational activities for residents within a safe and therapeutic environment.
Job Duties- Provide developmentally appropriate instruction to residents.
- Lead, organize, and schedule intramural sporting events for residents.
- Maintain a safe, clean, therapeutic environment for staff and residents.
- Work flexible hours to accommodate the daily scheduled residential events.
- Understand residents’ psychological needs and support the therapeutic environment.
- Display a high degree of professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, parents, agency personnel, and community members.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to implement behavioral management strategies and de‑escalation techniques; good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
- Previous experience in a residential or psychiatric setting preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
