ScheduleRotating shifts on the Interfacility Transport Team and Transfer Center include 6 AM - 6 PM, 3 PM - 11 PM, 10 PM - 6 AM, and 6 PM to 6 AM. Weekend work and alternate shifts may be required.
Job Duties- Serve as a Paramedic on a Specialty Care Team (SCT), providing specialized care utilizing critical care skills and intensive observational monitoring techniques to assess patient condition and provide an advanced level of specialized care to all critically ill patients (surgical, medical and pediatrics).
- Conduct long distance inter-facility critical care patient transfers to include critical care transport to higher level of care hospitals and medical centers.
- Administer critical care drugs as necessary which require specialized knowledge of the monitoring and infusion equipment and the effects, side effects, doses, and dosage calculations due to the potency and potential to cause serious complications.
- Operate specialized medical equipment i.e., resuscitators, defibrillators, electrocardiographs, oxygen apparatus, intravenous pumps, rapid intravenous infusers and ventilation devices.
- Administer oxygen, intravenous (IV) fluids, blood transfusions and all types of medications during emergent events by various routes to include but not limited to intravenous, intraosseous, subcutaneous, intramuscular, by mouth and rectal. Calculate dosages, observe and treat adverse reactions to medications. Document administration of medications in accordance with established charting procedures.
- Perform complex or potentially life‑threatening procedures such as Rapid Sequence Induction, cardioversion and surgical cricothyrotomy.
- Perform procedures to collect blood, tissue, urine, stool, or sputum specimens. Prepare specimens for processing and transport to lab as required.
- Conduct an independent and complete preliminary assessment of the patient and implement a proper plan of care after identifying and interpreting life‑threatening conditions by initiating lifesaving measures. Assess and evaluate interventions based on patient’s response and revise patient care plan accordingly.
- Monitor and obtain test results as soon as available to facilitate patient care.
- Request permission to deviate from prescribed protocols when necessary through medical control authority. Carry out treatment individually when assistance is unavailable, using best judgement based on protocol and current standard of care.
- Employ communicable disease precautions and containment measures as required.
- Transfer patient to the Emergency Department or other specialized care area as appropriate or as directed.
- Report observations and care given and help provide continued emergency treatment.
- Verbally update patient’s condition at scene, during transport and changes upon transfer of patient care to the MTF staff or other receiving facility staff.
- Document in writing in a clear and concise manner the patient care rendered to each patient based on signs and symptoms observed. Provide specific details of treatments done during transport to include drug type, dose and route, and immobilization methods used.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of charts, reports, forms, logs and complete documents in both written and computer‑generated formats.
