Responsibilities
Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 17 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues.
We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or self‑injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE®‑approved and certified facility.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Student Records Custodian and ensure every student record is in full compliance with local, state, federal, accreditation and company requirements.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including clinical, education, residential, medical staff, parents/guardians, LEAs, referral sources and risk management.
- Attend clinical treatment team and unit review meetings as needed; input UHS Best in Class Monthly Report Card Data into the web portal including pre‑ and post‑testing results.
- Supervise and direct the administration of SOL and other statewide testing in accordance with testing security and protocols.
- Assist with completing teacher observations at the direction of the Director.
- Attend scheduled supervision meetings with the Director of Education.
- Represent the facility as the administrative designee when the Director of Education appoints.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to develop appropriate transition plans to be included on each student’s Individual Service Plan.
- Communicate effectively with students, facility personnel, referral sources, and local education agencies.
- Maintain assessment materials and communication with local education agencies regarding standardized testing and assessment toward graduation.
- Maintain positive relationships with students and co‑workers.
- Access educational records and information for individual students from referral sources and local education agencies.
- Apply special education policies and procedures.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education or Related Field.
Experience:
At least three years of experience in an educational setting is preferred.
EMPLOYEE EDUCATIONAL / CERTIFICATION / LICENSE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Current valid VA DOE Teaching Certificate, preferably in Special Education.
- Handle with Care, CPR and First Aid certification.
