• Location: Portsmouth, Virginia 23707
• Employment Type: Travel Contract
• Start Date: February 16, 2026
• End Date: May 16, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Shift: Days, Monday – Friday, 12-hour days
• Call Rotation: 1 week on, 1 week off (low call-back frequency)
• Average Weekly Hours: 40
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2340 - $2510

• Minimum 1 year of recent cardiovascular surgical experience required
• Proven experience with heart surgery, VATS, and vascular procedures
• Vein harvesting experience required
• Active BLS certification
• Valid Virginia surgical assistant licensure
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistant program
• Surgical Assistants with 2+ years of SFA experience (not currently certified) must obtain certification within 6 months of hire
• New graduates from a Certified Surgical First Assist school must obtain certification within 1 year
• Completion of Medical Staff privileging process required (application fee applies; 4–6 weeks)

• Assist surgeons in CVOR procedures: patient positioning, retraction, suturing, dressing application, and skin closure
• Prepare and set up the operating room with necessary surgical equipment
• Maintain strict sterile technique throughout all procedures
• Support room turnover and restock surgical supplies
• Collaborate with charge nurse for assignments and serve as a clinical resource
• Maintain current certification as a surgical assistant
