Purpose And Scope

Work with scheduling team to develop structural plans and write technical work instructions for the production/execution team. This position also includes conducting on‑site reviews of ships, performing technical reviews for coworkers, proper filing, providing accurate work status, and other duties as assigned.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Production Planning (Core Function)
    • Conduct structural inspections.
    • Obtain IMIA structural inspector certification.
    • Identify, document and report deficiencies found onboard naval vessels.
    • Work with production team to develop structural plans.
    • Develop work packages for production use.
    • Review work specification to develop work instructions for trades use.
    • Interpret NAVSEA drawings, standards and specifications.
    • Determine Objective Quality Evidence requirements.
  • Material Planning
    • Develop job material list from technical references and drawings.
    • Determine material sizes and quantities required.
    • Resolve technical specification conflict or suitable substitutes.
    • Assist purchasing in finding qualified vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to enter and work in confined spaces.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs (Word and Excel Required).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (Structural/Weld drawing experience preferred).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and multi‑task.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • Familiarity with Government publications and standards for specifications and manuals.
  • Working knowledge of Naval Ship repair & installation practices, specifically welding and fitting.
Education
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum one (1) or more years in a shipyard production environment preferably in US Navy repair or new construction shipyards.

Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.

Working Conditions
  • Most work performed in an office environment under pressured, fast‑paced conditions; frequently requires overtime.
  • Within the shipyard, minimal exposure to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces.
