Operation of CNC 5‑Axis router to cut complex shapes used to support the installation of hull treatment and non‑metallic coatings on United States Navy nuclear‑powered submarines. Position requires a willingness to learn, dependability, and the ability to think critically.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards.
- Use manual and power tools.
- Read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance manuals, safety rules and regulations, and procedure manuals.
- Program and oversee CNC 5‑Axis router operation, run calibration tests, and inspect machinery for repair needs.
- Prepare molds and templates for fabrication of hull treatment materials.
- Maintain a clean work environment where coatings work is performed.
- Demonstrate comprehension of complex shapes.
- Mix different types of solvent and adhesive materials.
- Ensure fairness and flushness in surface preparation.
- Follow all company rules and policies.
- Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
- Perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent/Engineer.
- Comply with clean‑shaven standards to wear half/full face respirator.
- Pass a thorough background investigation to obtain access into a shipyard environment.
- Proficiency in programming, troubleshooting, and operating CNC milling equipment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, Fusion 360, etc.
- Shipyard, manufacturing, or industrial experience.
- Work cooperatively and productively with other employees and shipyard personnel.
- Identify and measure material accurately.
- Use strong math skills for inputting specific dimensions and figures into the machinery.
- Analyze information from drawings or other explanatory documents to ensure the final product matches the sketch.
- Possess strong computer skills as the 5‑Axis router uses software to control machinery.
- Problem‑solve to detect issues in the creation process and find solutions.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, weight, volume, and density.
- Carry out instructions given in oral, written, or diagram form.
- Organize, prioritize, and perform required duties efficiently and independently.
- High School Education
- Regularly exposed to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, dusty conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces, precarious places, and proximity to other employees. Safety clothing and devices are required.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl; occasionally sit; reach, grip, handle; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; use vision for close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
