Duties
* You will ensure workers under your leadership have the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc. to perform their work operations.
* You will maintain close observations of all work operations; assure proper adherence to procedures and guidelines, as well as keeping the first line supervisor informed of problems associated with these items.
* You will coordinate work while assuring proper intertrade and inter-shop coordination, high levels of quality assurance with timely yet orderly job completion.
* You will provide on the job training for up to 10 workers under your leadership, correct improper work methods, and ensure assigned work procedures are being followed.
* You will take appropriate action to prevent and/or overcome bottlenecks, equipment and power breakdowns, assure that proper types and amounts of equipment are at the job site.
* You will maintain computer records of expended man hours, and closing out jobs when completed. Requirements Conditions of employment

* This is a bargaining unit position.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.
The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE
* Experience interpreting and applying building plans and blueprints; utilizing shop mathematics to plan, compute, and layout projects.
* Experience using tools and equipment common to the trade; skilled in safety precautions, principals, and work methods associated with a maintenance mechanic; familiarity with ship lines and ship construction nomenclature.
* Experience providing subordinates with the necessary plans, procedures, blueprints, instructions, tools, etc., to perform their work operations; applying safety precautions, principals, and work methods associated with a maintenance mechanic.
* Experience utilizing knowledge of the physical exterior and interior configurations of a large variety of submarines and surface ships; maintaining tools and equipment of the trade.
