Position Overview
This Logistics & Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the efficient and effective supervision of SPSA’s Logistics and Transportation operations across all locations. Analyzes and monitors the efficiency of established routes, schedules, and strategies. Recommends improvements as needed. Prioritizes, schedules, and assigns work tasks to Transportation team to maximize the overall effectiveness in the provision of a safe and efficient transportation system and assigned personnel.
The approximate amount of time spent on essential duties & responsibilities areas are as follows:
- Manages the daily operations of SPSA’s Logistics & Transportation operations (60%)
- Develops and maintains logistics models, including demand forecasting and cost estimating (15%)
- Supervises, trains, evaluates, and selects assigned personnel (15%)
- Maintains regulatory compliance records & provides required reporting (10%)
- Responsible for managing efficient and effective Logistics and Transportation operations across all SPSA locations.
- Analyzes and monitors the efficiency of established routes, schedules, and strategies using data and information systems to recommend improvements to existing or planned logistics processes.
- Develops and maintains models for logistics uses, such as demand forecasting and cost estimating.
- Prepares reports on logistics performance measures and tonnages across the Transfer Stations.
- Prioritizes, schedules, and assigns work tasks to Transportation team to maximize the overall effectiveness of a safe and efficient transportation system.
- Selects, trains, motivates, supervises, disciplines, and evaluates all assigned personnel in accordance with SPSA's policies and applicable employment and EEO laws.
- Monitors the performance of service providers, such as contracted trucking companies, to ensure work is performed up to standard and contract requirements.
- Ensures staff conscientiously operate and maintain SPSA commercial vehicles and equipment in a manner which promotes longevity and maximum value.
- Ensures operators inspect vehicles and equipment for proper operating condition and report defective or damaged equipment in accordance with established policies and procedures for repair.
- Monitors and evaluates the availability of vehicles between work shifts. Monitors traffic flow to change route assignments due to traffic conditions, weather conditions or as other factors necessitate.
- Maintains required regulatory compliance records in all forms and tracks information via computer.
- Implement systems (cradle-to-grave) to track waste from pick up to final destination, and provide transparency and accountability amongst Transportation and Transfer Stations.
- Evaluates Logistics and Transportation operations with consideration to environmental impact, regulations, and determines requirements to improve efficiency and ensure organizational compliance.
- Acts as direct liaison between the Transfer Stations and Transportation teams to coordinate transportation needs between all SPSA transfer points and monitors waste flow to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of SPSA’s hauling efforts.
- Monitors industry standards, trends, and practices to identify developments in logistics and transportation operations.
- Develops metrics to enable the implementation of performance standards and regularly reports on the overall performance of the transportation unit.
- Prepares operating and capital budget for Logistics & Transportation in a timely manner.
- Manage expenses related to fuel consumption, equipment maintenance, labor and supplies.
- Obtains price quotes for project work, materials, and supplies from vendors and purchases products and services in accordance with the Virginia Procurement Act.
- Completes and submits department reports accurately and on a timely basis. Retains documentation to facilitate easy retrieval.
- Under the guidance and direction of the Director of Operations, reports to the Board of Directors at Board Meetings and in individual communications.
