Overview

The Department of Transportation (MCDOT) mission is to move people and connect places with seamless, equitable transportation options that are safe, environmentally responsible, and support economic growth and vibrancy in Montgomery County. MCDOT provides transit options and infrastructure that serves residents, commuters, and visitors.

Responsibilities Clerical Responsibilities
  • Format and type memoranda, letters, reports, purchase orders, contracts, invoices, and other office documents.
  • Compile, organize, and reconcile data from various sources to determine status of revenues and supplies, preparing budgets and financial projections.
  • Determine and utilize the most effective method to produce required documents (calculator, personal computer, word processing equipment).
  • Prepare invoices, bills, requisitions, monthly reports, project status reports, and other documents according to established procedures.
  • Develop, monitor, maintain, and contribute to the modification of filing systems and/or document control procedures.
  • Create databases, spreadsheets, and tables using information from other sources as needed.
Communication and Coordination Responsibilities
  • Monitor, receive, and respond to radio transmissions from Sign Shop personnel operating in the field.
  • Maintain and provide information on locations of Sign Shop crews and maintenance route schedules.
  • Receive and relay emergency calls from residents and field personnel to appropriate authorities (e.g., police, fire and rescue).
  • Place telephone calls to employees to have them report for emergency duty.
  • Act as person-in-charge in supervisor's absence and dispatch or reroute maintenance personnel as required.
  • Respond to inquiries from the general public and County employees by explaining, instructing, advising, and providing appropriate information and/or referrals.
Supply Responsibilities
  • Receive, unload, unpack, and place goods and supplies in assigned locations; count, sort, and weigh incoming articles to verify receipt as specified on invoice/purchase order; examine received goods for damage and verify conformance to specifications.
  • Operate manual and self-propelled materials handling equipment to move items in storage area.
  • Label and store items in bins, on floor and shelves, according to identifying information.
  • Rearrange and/or relocate stock to accommodate changing needs, safeguarding stock against loss, damage, or theft.
  • Monitor supply levels and prepare requisitions for stock replacement.
  • Fill orders for requested items, check items against requisition, and obtain receipt from requesting party.
  • Maintain stock records (manual or automated) and prepare reports as directed.
  • Remove items from stock such as discontinued, outdated, spoiled, damaged, hazardous items, and items designated for auction, destruction or trade-in.
  • Order oil, lubricants, gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene and propane, and prepare periodic consumption reports.
  • Conduct periodic physical inventories under supervision.
  • Perform general housecleaning duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Clerical

  • Knowledge of standard office procedures.
  • Skill in operating standard office equipment and using modern office software suites.
  • Ability to work independently on a variety of tasks and projects.
  • Ability to maintain multiple records and/or files.
  • Ability to process office forms, claims, bills, requests and applications and to prepare records for approval by a supervisor as required.
  • Ability to prepare statements and notices, computing applicable charges on the basis of records and regulations as required.

Supply

  • Knowledge of parts, materials, supplies, and related equipment required by the organization.
  • Knowledge of store keeping methods and practices used to order, receive, store, inventory, and issue items.
  • Knowledge of computerized warehousing methods and record keeping.
  • Ability to operate materials handling equipment, including a forklift, as required.
  • Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and order parts from equipment catalogs based on outlined specifications.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate supply-related records manually, and utilize a computerized warehousing system.
  • Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to attend meetings or perform other assignments at locations outside the office.

Communication/Coordination

  • Ability to operate two-way radio.
  • Ability to independently monitor multiple communications transmissions and operations (e.g., radio, telephone, Microsoft Teams).
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy and composure in dealing with the general public to respond to and resolve problems and emergency situations.
  • Ability to make decisions and prioritize actions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
