Primary Grade Assistant Teacher - Our Lady of Mercy School - Potomac Maryland
Our Lady of Mercy School in Potomac, Maryland is hiring a Primary Grade Assistant Teacher for the school year. This is a full‑time role that reports to the Principal. The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 to $22.00. Please forward your resume and letter of interest to cgreen

- Actively foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions and practices.
- Reflect the Catholic Church’s teaching on social justice and witness service to others.
- Assist in the planning of liturgical ceremonies such as Mass, penance services, prayer services, etc. (as required by classroom teacher or principal).
- Lead and encourage prayer in the classroom (as required by classroom teacher).
- Attend Catholic liturgical ceremonies (as required).
- Coordinate instruction with the classroom teacher.
- Assist in creating lesson plans that align with Archdiocese standards.
- Prepare instructional lessons for individual students and small groups.
- Plan and prepare teaching aids to enhance instruction.
- Prepare lesson materials for classroom use.
- Display students’ work and prepare bulletin boards.
- Type, laminate, file, and duplicate materials.
- Grade and record student work and tests.
- Present subject matter under guidance of the classroom teacher.
- Work with small groups to reinforce previously taught material and provide remedial help.
- Assist students during independent practice to ensure understanding and completion.
- Administer makeup work and assessments.
- Assist during classroom instruction.
- Help plan and deliver individual and group instruction including lectures, discussion and hands‑on activities.
- Use assessment data to differentiate instruction for diverse student needs.
- Support and enforce classroom procedures that optimize instructional time.
- Maintain a positive learning environment based on mutual respect and cooperation.
- Set high expectations for achievement.
- Ensure Catholic values underpin all interactions.
- Use formal and informal assessments to inform the classroom teacher of student progress.
- Attend parent conferences as required.
- Communicate routinely with the classroom teacher to understand expectations for students in small groups and remedial instruction.
- Produce weekly reports on accomplishments for the classroom teacher.
- Perform duties such as carpool, recess, lunch, and classroom teacher substitution (as required).
- Sponsor clubs and other school activities (as required).
- Attend home‑and‑school meetings and other after‑hours events (as required).
- Participate in all required faculty and professional development meetings (as required).
- Knowledge of child development and supervision.
- High school diploma and some college or child‑care coursework.
- Knowledge of CPR.
While a conscientious effort has been made to include all duties and expectations, the above is not all inclusive, and the position’s duties may be expanded or modified at the discretion of the classroom teacher or principal.
