Pay RangeBase pay: $24.00/hr – $29.00/hr (actual pay based on skills and experience).
About the Sherman Early Childhood CenterThe Sherman Early Childhood Center is a full‑time Jewish preschool at Congregation Har Shalom in Potomac, MD, offering a safe and nurturing environment where learning occurs through play, collaboration, and an integrated emergent curriculum.
We are seeking a caring, inspiring, and enthusiastic teacher who will be a contributing professional team member in a class of young children. The position is full‑time, Monday–Friday, 8:30–5:30 p.m., year‑round.
Key Requirements- 3–5 years of experience with young children, ages 1–4.
- Experience with constructivist pedagogy and emergent curriculum.
- 4‑year education degree in education or a 4‑year degree in another field plus the 90‑hour Childcare Course. If the 90‑hour course is not completed, willingness to begin coursework within the first three months.
- Creative, team‑player, excellent communicator, nurturing, dedicated, and flexible.
- Set up, plan, and implement provocations, lessons, and activities that are developmentally appropriate.
- Follow all school, synagogue, and state requirements set by the Office of Childcare, MD State Department of Education.
- Support the children’s physical, emotional, and special needs.
- Ensure safety of all children with proper supervision and care.
- Support the school's educational philosophy, values, Jewish content and the children and families experience.
- Communicate effectively and timely with the team and leadership regarding students, families, and the classroom.
- Create and maintain documentation of student progress, incidents, and be familiar with all student needs and health issues.
- Participate in all team meetings and family programming assigned, beyond school hours.
- Physical ability to care and ensure safety of all children including lifting, carrying, and running.
