Qualifications and Essential Functions

The Bullis School Athletic Department is looking to hire a qualified Varsity Assistant Softball Coach. Working closely with the Varsity Head Coach, this position helps foster a positive and competitive environment that aligns with Bullis School’s mission and values, while ensuring compliance with Independent School League (ISL) standards.

Schedule:

Practices are held Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. There are some competitions on the weekends, but most games are played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We compete against teams from Maryland, Virginia, and DC. If you are passionate about education and want to make a difference in the lives of young individuals, we want to hear from you!

  • Assist in designing and implementing all aspects of the softball program for grades 9-12, including practice planning, game preparation, and skill development.
  • Support communication with student-athletes regarding weekly schedules, early dismissals, and academic responsibilities.
  • Attend all required coaching meetings before, during, and after the season.
  • Collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach to plan off-season training, clinics, and workouts within ISL regulations.
  • Assist in managing program equipment, uniforms, and facility usage to ensure organization, cleanliness, and readiness.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Head Varsity Coach and Athletic Director(s), providing feedback and recommendations for program improvement.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities related to the softball program as assigned by the Head Varsity Softball Coach.
Experience Required
  • Prior successful experience coaching softball, preferably at the high school or travel level
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor student-athletes
  • Deep understanding of the sport, with a focus on skill development and strategic gameplay
  • CPR/First Aid and concussion training certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Must be available for regular season and postseason play (February-May)
Preferred
  • Collegiate playing or coaching experience
  • Experience coaching travel softball
  • Experience working in independent schools or with student-athletes in competitive academic environments
  • Experience coaching or mentoring at the Upper School level
  • Interest in being involved with the full program, including Middle School softball

This is a stipend position paid at the end of the season for $1, 900-$2,625.00.
