We are looking for an enthusiastic new receptionist for approx 30 hours per week over 4 days to join our supportive team. The post would suit somebody who is empathetic, works well under pressure and likes a busy but rewarding working environment. Although previous experience would be an advantage, this is not essential as full training will be provided. The hours available are:
Monday 8‑1, Tuesday 1‑6.30, Wednesday 8‑1 and /or 2‑6.30 and Friday 8‑1 and/ or 2‑6.30
The role of a GP receptionist is varied and includes answering the telephone, booking appointments, greeting patients and processing clinical letters and repeat prescriptions. The post holder will need to be flexibly to cover annual leave.
Job responsibilities- Facilitate the booking of appointments
- Receive requests for prescription, sick notes, insurance forms and other correspondence and taking fees as appropriate.
- Explain surgery procedures, giving details about the practice to patients on registration, completing new patients paperwork.
- Managing all patients enquires
- Receiving and recording requests for home visits and ensuring the duty doctor is notified
- Receiving messages for doctors and all members of the Primary Health Care Team and ensure that they are passed to the relevant person
- Contacting patients at the doctors request
- Filing medical notes referrals and other correspondence when required
- Ensure details of any unresolved or urgent matters are passed to colleagues
- Opening the surgery premises and ensuring safe closure of the same
- Any other tasks as requested by the management or partners which assist the smooth running of the surgery
- Be aware of all practice protocols for reception
- Ensure personal e-learning is up to date
- Ensure the reception area is left tidy and ready for incoming colleagues
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Experience
- Previous work experience in an administrative or receptionist role
- Experience of working in general practice
- Experience of working with the public
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Friendly and efficient telephone manner
- Ability to use alphabetical filing systems
- Professional manner and appearance
- Calm and patient under pressure
- Empathetic and caring nature
- Punctual and reliable
- Able to work flexibly when required
- Understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality
- Quick to learn
- Some knowledge of and interest in the NHS
- To ensure a high level of service to patients
- To undertake all reception duties effectively and promptly
- To maintain absolute confidence when dealing with patient information
- To be a flexible and positive member of the reception team
- Previous experience in an NHS setting
