Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Computing lessons across EYFS and Key Stages 1–2.

Teach core areas of the Computing curriculum, including:

  • Digital Literacy (safe and responsible use of technology, online safety)
  • Computer Science (coding, algorithms, problem-solving, logical thinking)
  • Information Technology (word processing, presentations, data handling, creative media)

Differentiate lessons to support all learners, including those with SEND and EAL, and extend higher-ability pupils.

Ensure that online safety and digital citizenship are embedded in teaching and classroom practice.

Use assessment strategies to track pupil progress and provide regular feedback to pupils, parents, and colleagues.

Maintain up-to-date records of pupil achievement in line with school policies.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to support cross-curricular use of ICT and promote digital learning across the school.

Contribute to the development of schemes of work and resources for Computing.

Support and guide staff in developing their own digital skills where appropriate.

Manage and care for computing equipment, liaising with IT support to ensure smooth operation of hardware, software, and learning platforms.

Organise or support enrichment activities such as coding clubs, robotics workshops, or digital creativity projects.

Uphold and promote the safeguarding of all pupils, especially with respect to online safety.

Contribute fully to the wider life of the school, including assemblies, events, and displays of children’s work.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (Essential)
  • Degree in Computing, IT, or related subject (Desirable)
  • Evidence of continued professional development in Computing/EdTech (Desirable)
Experience
  • Experience teaching Computing within a primary setting (Essential)
  • Strong knowledge of the national curriculum for Computing (Essential)
  • Experience in coding/programming at primary level (Scratch, block-based coding, micro:bit, etc.) (Desirable)
  • Experience with online safety education (Essential)
  • Experience leading extra-curricular activities related to technology (Desirable)
Knowledge & Skills
  • Secure understanding of Computing curriculum and progression from EYFS to KS2.
  • Ability to deliver creative, practical, and challenging lessons.
  • Awareness of safeguarding and online safety requirements.
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to differentiate effectively to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Confident use of a wide range of digital tools (e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Purple Mash, Scratch, Tinkercad, robotics kits).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage pupils, parents, and staff.
