Job Title: Director of Music

Reports to: Parochial Administrator

Location: St. Thomas More Parish, Pottstown, PA 19465

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt (15 hours/week)

The Director of Music leads and coordinates the Parish’s liturgical music ministry, fostering high-quality worship through collaboration with clergy, staff, cantors, choir members, and musicians. The Director plans, directs, and performs music for Sunday Masses, Holy Days, sacramental celebrations, and special liturgies.

• Bachelor’s degree in music (preferred) or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and worship
• Proficiency in organ and piano performance, conducting, sight reading and vocal coaching skills.
• Strong organizational, collaboration and communication skills
• Familiarity with copyright and digital licensing rules (e.g., One License, ICR Music)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and One License

• Serve as principal organist for parish weekend Masses and special liturgies as assigned
• Plan, prepare, and distribute schedules, cantor music and materials, guitar and choir music
• Plan and direct choir rehearsals (September–June) and select appropriate repertoire
• Provide vocal coaching and music theory training to choir members and clergy
• Schedule and communicate assignments and text weekly reminders to cantors and musicians
• Coordinate music for weddings and funerals, including consultations and rehearsals
• Maintain parish instruments, music library, and digital music licenses
• Track and prepare payroll reports for paid staff organists
• Collaborate with Business Manager on budgeting, purchasing, payroll, and copyright compliance
• Recruit new choir members and promote participation in music ministry
