Accounting Clerk

Description

An established nonprofit organization in Poughkeepsie is seeking a Contract Junior Accountant / Accounting Clerk to support its finance department. This role will assist with transactional accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and grant-related activities. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, a solid accounting foundation, and an interest in supporting a mission-focused organization.

Key Responsibilities

+ Enter and reconcile accounting transactions.

+ Process accounts payable, employee reimbursements, and cash receipts.

+ Assist with monthly reconciliations and financial reporting.

+ Support general ledger maintenance and journal entry preparation.

+ Track grant expenditures and program-related expenses.

+ Assist with donor and funding source reporting requirements.

+ Maintain organized financial files and records.

+ Support audit preparation and compliance documentation.

+ Help identify process improvements and efficiencies.

+ Provide administrative support to the finance team as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications

+ Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.

+ 1-4 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience.

+

Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.

+ Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

+ High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

+ Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

+ Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.

+ Understanding of fund accounting and grant tracking.

+

Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Intacct, MIP Fund Accounting, Quick Books, or similar systems.

+ Experience supporting audits and compliance reporting.
