Summary/Primary RoleThe Gastroenterologist is responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and liver. This role provides primarily outpatient care, performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with gastrointestinal, hepatic, pancreatic, and biliary disorders.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including but not limited to:
- Upper endoscopy (EGD)
- Colonoscopy
- Polypectomy
- Biopsy and hemostasis procedures
- Manage chronic GI conditions such as IBS, IBD, GERD, liver disease, and colorectal cancer screening.
- Interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory results, imaging, and pathology reports.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans based on current clinical guidelines.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care.
- Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant medical documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical meetings, and continuing medical education.
- Collaborate with clinical team to ensure continuity of care.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
- All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency.
- Completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology.
- Active and unrestricted New York State medical license (or eligibility for licensure).
- Current DEA registration.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care.
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with electronic medical record systems.
This position may have supervisory responsibility for Advanced Practice Providers (NPs or PAs) within the Gastroenterology Department.
Expected Hours of WorkEmployees must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes. The expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled.
Travel RequirementsTravel between Premier Medical Group office locations may be required.
Work EnvironmentThis role operates primarily in a clinical office setting, with inpatient and/or procedural responsibilities. The environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain professionalism under pressure.
Physical Demands- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for patient examinations and diagnostic procedures.
