Job Summary:The Crime and Justice Studies department in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Marist University invites applications for a tenure track appointment for an Assistant Professor of Crime and Justice Studies to begin the fall of 2027.
Minimum Qualifications:A doctoral degree in criminal justice, criminology, or other related field completed before the beginning of the fall 2027 semester.
Essential Functions:Marist faculty are teachers, scholars, and active members of the university and local community. We welcome candidates who place an emphasis on quality teaching in a small classroom setting and who can expertly integrate relevant contemporary and sociocultural content into their teaching. Applicants should be flexible regarding teaching assignments and confident in their abilities to teach courses within their areas of expertise, as well as courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Race & Crime, Research Methods, and Senior Seminar.
Responsibilities include:
- Undergraduate instruction with an expectation of competence in the use of instructional technology
- Responsible for academic advisement of students
- Participation in departmental and school activities
- Active research agenda
- Service to the university community
Prior experience teaching at the college/university level.

7. Remains 1% thereafter. - Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist University.
- 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
- Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
- University pays 100% tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
* Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the University.
About the Department/School:The Crime and Justice Studies Department is home to 7 full-time faculty as well as several valued part-time faculty. The department members have expertise in many domains and work together to create a rich curricular experience for students that includes theory, research, and applied internships. This department is one of four departments in the School; the others are psychology, social work & sociology, and teacher education.
The School also has graduate programs as follows: MA School Psychology; MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling;
Masters of Arts in Teaching;
Masters of Education, Contemporary Curriculum and Instruction, and Master of Social Work.
The CJS department and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences are committed to advancing an inclusive climate. The School has taken leadership in several social justice initiatives, including Creating an Inclusive Community dialogues, the Marist Center for Social Justice Research, and a minor in social justice.
