Part-Time Faculty - Computer Science and Computer Information Systems
Located in the heart of New York's historic mid-Hudson Valley, 90 minutes north of New York City, Dutchess Community College (DCC) is one of 64 colleges within the State University of New York. Job DescriptionThe Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at DCC invites applications for part-time faculty in Computer Information Systems and Computer Science. The department is seeking instructors for the Spring 2026 semester to teach the following courses:
- CIS
111 - Computer Systems and Applications - CIS
112 - Computer Programming I (using C#) - CIS
123 - Computer Programming II (using C#) - CIS
150 - Information Security Management - CIS
218 - Routing and Switching Technology - CIS
228 - Website Administration - CPS
141 - Computer Science I (using Java) - CPS
142 - Computer Science II (using Java) - CPS
231 - Data Structures (using Java)
Courses are in-person at the main campus in Poughkeepsie and at DCC rses are offered primarily during the day, with some courses in the late afternoon and evening. Part-time faculty teach assigned class material in accordance with learning objectives developed by the department.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems with more than 5 years of industry experience in Information Management, Networking, Systems, or Database Administration OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science with more than 5 years of industry experience as a software engineer.
- Official academic transcripts required upon hire.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organizational skills necessary to prepare and present course content in an engaging and interactive manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching at the college level, particularly at a community college.
- Industry experience directly related to the content within the specific course for consideration.
- A commitment to diversity and an understanding of how diversity impacts learning and instruction.
- Experience and familiarity with a learning management system (LMS) such as Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle.
Working Conditions
- The performance of this work is primarily in-person and on-site.
