Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Mainframe System Verification Tester Apprentice, you will work with IBM Z Engineering System Test to validate and qualify the design, architecture, and code of IBM Z mainframes. You will support IBM processors, storage, and other semiconductor hardware using the latest tools and technologies. During the apprenticeship, you will:

• Work closely with engineers, technicians, and mentors in a laboratory or test floor environment to create and execute test or physical characterization plans.
• Assess electrical performance and characteristics against design and functional requirements.
• Learn principles of system analysis, defect identification and repair, and lab safety procedures for chemical, optical, or electrical characterization.
• Use state‑of‑the‑art tools to test, manipulate and inspect product chips and interpret data with engineers.

After completion of initial training (approximately 6 months), you may be required to work an alternate shift (e.g. 2:30–11:00 pm) for about 6 months.

• Some basic knowledge or experience in electrical engineering sciences (Electrical Safety, Electron Theory, AC/DC Basics, Wires and Cables, Computer Electronics, Electrical Testing Equipment).

Preferred Education

Associate's Degree or College Diploma.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Willingness to complete the apprenticeship program requirements.
• Some knowledge or experience with operating systems like Windows, Linux.
• General networking and infrastructure fundamentals.
• Server or storage management.

Apprenticeship Program Details

IBM Apprenticeship Program is an official registered apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). Graduates receive a nationally‑recognized credential. The program runs for approximately 12 months, during which you complete specific learning hours and on‑the‑job training. Upon graduation, you may apply for full‑time roles at IBM.
