As an On‑Call Substitute Teacher
, you'll play a mission‑critical role in keeping learning on track — stepping in seamlessly to deliver high‑quality instruction and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment. Your primary responsibility is to increase student achievement by consistently implementing Chance Light endorsed instructional practices and strategies, while ensuring full alignment with district and state policies. You’ll bring stability, momentum, and positive energy to the classroom — because great learning doesn’t take a day off.
- Delivering instruction using provided curriculum resources, lesson materials, and approved educational software to ensure continuity of learning.
- Implementing daily lesson plans and classroom schedules that reflect state standards, school expectations, and individual classroom routines.
- Maintaining a safe, structured, and effective learning environment by enforcing student behavior expectations with clear boundaries, consistency, and a high degree of structure.
- Supporting diverse learners by following approved accommodations and modifications, and collaborating with staff to reinforce student goals and instructional plans.
- Partnering with teachers and support staff (instructional aides, service providers, administrators, etc.) to ensure consistent instructional delivery and appropriate classroom support.
- Monitoring and documenting student progress through ongoing observation, classroom data collection, and accurate use of recording systems and tools.
- Communicating professionally with parents/guardians when appropriate to share student progress, learning needs, and any concerns that may impact school performance.
- Participating in team meetings as needed to address student support plans, behavioral needs, and family‑related concerns, ensuring alignment across the team.
- Staying current on research‑based instructional practices and participating in professional development opportunities to strengthen instructional impact and classroom effectiveness.
- Responding constructively to feedback, demonstrating flexibility, professionalism, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Performing other duties as assigned, supporting campus priorities and ensuring a smooth, student‑centered day of instruction.
‖ Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study.
- Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a WA state substitute teaching credential.
- Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a special education credential preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.
- Prior experience providing instruction, guidance and/or support to children, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
- Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services, curriculum development, differentiation and instruction in a classroom setting preferred.
- Highly skilled in working with children with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders and/or other related disabilities.
