Position: Ground Control Systems Manufacturing Engineer with Security Clearance
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. Under general directions with limited review, this position is responsible for applying innovative approaches to resolving unusual or complex engineering problems. Assignments are normally outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely tiates the planning of engineering projects and develops innovative designs or modifications in order to meet project goals.

Independently performs difficult/complex engineering work with instructions as to the general expected results. Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff, makes technical presentations, and may represent the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single component projects. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may lead a team of moderately experienced professional staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Identify the requirements and specific operation steps for production of parts, assemblies and end items referencing engineering drawings, bills of material (BOM) and other applicable documentation.

* Create and maintain process specifications, work instructions, master routings, work orders and related documentation for manufacturing processes, workmanship standards, handling/packaging, and determine certification requirements for special processes. Obtain approvals and complete process change documents as required.

* Write work instructions in a manner that is easily understood by production personnel and still reflects the necessary engineering, quality and other applicable requirements and pertinent details.

* Develop and maintain routing templates for common and other key scenarios, and leverage those templates when practical for consistency, standardization, and best practices.

* Follow up with production throughout the build of new product to ensure the work order routing is adequate, evaluate feedback from a process perspective and make any adjustments accordingly.

* Monitor release of drawing redlines and engineering changes, update the affected work orders in a timely manner and keep records as necessary to ensure that all changes have been incorporated.

* Assist with Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) and any manufacturing synthetic part numbers required.

* Review existing often complex work order routings, configuration logs, MBOMs and related information for accuracy and completeness, identifying and correcting errors and making updates as required.

* Work diligently, maintaining close attention to details, ensuring work is complete, accurate, conforming to requirements and consistent with business process specifications.

* Develop, implement & improve manufacturing processes for the Ground Control Station (GCS) and related ground support equipment, including kitting, assembly, test, inspection and packaging operations.

* Determine, monitor and analyze key performance indicator metrics - particularly regarding Safety, Quality, Schedule/Delivery and Cost - with improvement opportunities identified and undertaken accordingly, including assessment of the effectiveness of changes implemented.

* Ensure all shop personnel have the proper tooling, equipment, processes, documentation and training needed to produce quality parts.

* Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, DMAIC, PDCA, 5S, Standard Work, Takt, Value Stream Mapping, Pull System, Manufacturing Flow and similar methodologies for process development, implementation and improvement as applicable and appropriate.

* Prepare recommendations for capital expenditures in support of manufacturing process improvements or related needs with supporting analysis and rationale as required, and if the expenditure is approved, coordinate for procurement, implementation.
