Job SummaryGeneral Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. We have an exciting new position within our Engineering Services group for an AI Project Engineer to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) subject matter expertise and support across Functional Engineering teams within Engineering Research & Design.
While this position reports to Engineering Services, it will offer AI guidance, expertise, and services to all groups within Functional Engineering, including Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Flight Technologies, System Development & Test, Advanced Airframe Engineering, Engineering Field Support, and the Office of Airworthiness, among others. This role will partner with Information Technology Services (ITS) and business stakeholders to champion AI-related projects and process improvements.
The position will also actively participate in the ASI Engineering AI Tech Council, contributing to strategy, prioritization, and decision‑making for AI initiatives.
- Serve as an AI Project Engineer for Engineering Services, providing expertise and leadership on AI‑related projects and process improvements across all Functional Engineering teams.
- Collaborate with ITS and business teams to identify, evaluate, and prioritize AI use cases and solutions.
- Participate in the ASI Engineering AI Tech Council, contributing to discussions and strategies related to:
- Genie Chatbot use cases, metrics, feedback, process development, and prioritization matrix.
- AI Technical and Program Roadmaps
- Champion AI‑related initiatives that aim to improve time‑to‑market and production efficiency while enabling employees to focus on higher‑value, strategic tasks. Key efforts include:
- Rollout of AI Intelligent Search for ASI documents, enabling Genie OnBase advanced search capabilities.
- Development of AI capabilities for automating drawing release and workflows.
- AI‑driven software development, proposal management automation.
- AI‑assisted reviewing and compliance checking for engineering deliverables.
- Implementation of AI‑enabled workflows for document management and digital thread integration.
- Refine the Engineering AI Roadmap and support ongoing prioritization efforts.
- Collaborate with external vendors and partners (e.g., Accenture, IBM) to explore innovative AI solutions for engineering processes.
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows: six or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, four or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI technologies and their application to engineering workflows.
- Strong understanding of engineering tools, processes, and standards (e.g., SysML, DOORS, Jama, OnBase, SharePoint).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across functional teams and levels of the organization.
- Experience with AI tools and frameworks, including Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Familiarity with digital thread concepts and document management workflows is a plus.
- Experience with AI‑assisted creation and reviewing of engineering deliverables.
- Passion for AI and its potential to transform engineering practices and business operations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance is required.

Salary range: $98,100 - $171,398
