Job SummaryGA-ASI is a leader in aerospace and defense technologies, specializing in advanced unmanned aircraft systems and innovative engineering solutions. This role operates with minimal supervision and significant independence, supporting the Engineering Field Support Department by fabricating, modifying, assembling, and maintaining complex production equipment and experimental systems. It may include designing moderately complex equipment, conducting advanced tests, and assisting in root cause investigations by duplicating field-reported issues.
The position involves collecting and analyzing data, summarizing results through charts and reports, and communicating findings effectively. Proficiency with ground control stations and aircraft systems is essential. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with a strong technical background and hands‑on problem‑solving skills.
- Independently fabricates, modifies, assembles, and installs complex laboratory and experimental systems, including mechanical, electrical, and electro‑mechanical components.
- Operates, troubleshoots, and maintains GCS, aircraft systems, and specialized test equipment in both lab and field environments.
- Supports engineering and design efforts by assisting in the development of test equipment and procedures for production and R&D applications.
- Coordinates with engineering teams to design rework or prototype modifications and provides feedback on equipment performance and feasibility.
- Conducts and documents complex failure investigations by replicating reported issues and identifying root causes using data‑driven methods.
- Performs complex diagnostic testing and preventive maintenance on fielded and experimental systems to improve reliability and minimize downtime.
- Develops and executes detailed test plans, records and analyzes data, and prepares technical reports including charts, graphs, and written evaluations.
- Interprets engineering drawings, technical instructions, and specifications to assemble, operate, and troubleshoot complex systems.
- Replicates test cables from drawings/bill of materials, orders parts through SAP, and assembles or repairs cables using minimal tools.
- Leads prototype builds and test configurations, providing supervision for junior technicians or team members as required.
- Participates in resource planning, procurement of parts and materials, and coordinates logistics for lab operations and field activities.
- Reviews hardware design artifacts and drawings to order and track the delivery of repair and test equipment.
- Travels occasionally, primarily to California desert facilities, with potential international assignments lasting approximately 10–14 days.
- Performs occasional tasks such as transporting parts, handling shipping and courier deliveries (including to desert test facilities), and retrieving commonly used stock items.
- Performs hands‑on work safely around operating engines, adhering to all local safety protocols and authority requirements.
- Ensures compliance with safety protocols, company policies, and applicable regulations when handling high‑energy, cryogenic, vacuum, or hazardous systems.
- Maintains lab infrastructure, test setups, and documentation, and performs general housekeeping duties.
- Typically requires an associate's degree or equivalent with seven or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Strong background in electrical and mechanical systems with the ability to bridge disciplines in test, design, repair, and troubleshooting environments.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose, correct, and prevent equipment failures through root cause analysis and maintenance strategies.
- Skilled in data acquisition, analysis, and documentation, with the ability to summarize test results and identify trends or anomalies.
- Proficient in using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and Hi‑pot testers.
- Proficient in relevant software and tools used for data recording, system control, and technical reporting.
- Capable of independently planning, executing, and documenting test and repair procedures.
- Effective communication and leadership skills to mentor others and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring dexterity, prolonged standing, confined spaces, or elevated positions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and operational excellence in high‑risk environments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
