DescriptionThe Manufacturing Design/Tooling/Value Engineer will be responsible for designing and optimizing manufacturing processes, developing tooling solutions, and driving cost‑efficiency through value‑engineering principles. This role bridges product design and production, ensuring manufacturability, quality, and cost‑effectiveness while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Design and improve manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
- Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) input during product development.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (production, quality, R&D) to ensure seamless integration of designs into manufacturing.
- Analyze production workflows and recommend layout improvements for efficiency.
- Design, develop, and maintain tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures using CAD software (Solid Works preferred or CREO).
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost analysis for tooling projects.
- Oversee installation, testing, and maintenance of tooling equipment.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards in tooling design and usage.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality or functionality.
- Perform design‑to‑value analysis and implement optimization strategies.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to source cost‑effective materials and processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Maintain accurate documentation for tooling specifications, process changes, and design updates.
- Ensure adherence to ISO standards and regulatory requirements.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related field. - Experience:
5–7 years in manufacturing engineering with strong exposure to tooling and value engineering. - Technical
Skills:- Proficiency in CAD software (Solid Works preferred or CREO).
- Knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding processes.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Net Suite preferred).
- Understanding of GD&T and ANSI standards.
- Preferred Methodologies:
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, FMEA, 5S.
- Soft Skills:
Strong problem‑solving ability, project management skills, and cross‑functional collaboration. - Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with basic manufacturing fabrication processes (CNC Machining, Welding, Press Brakes).
- Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM):
Apply principles of DFAM to ensure designs are optimized for specific 3D printing technologies and materials (e.g., FDM). - Knowledge of cost modeling and ROI analysis for tooling projects.
- Certification in PMP or Value Methodology (VMA/AVS) is a plus.
