DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* This position serves as a software engineering manager and exercises considerable latitude in determining and pursuing courses of action necessary to design, develop and/or modify real-time embedded software applications.
* Manages all phases of assigned engineering project(s) from inception through completion, including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
* Provide technical direction and manage the work assignments of software leadership staff and software developers on the team. Oversees work output for consistency, accuracy, and adherence to development processes and standards.
* Manage real-time embedded software development within the broader organizational scope. Ensure alignment with predetermined long-range goals and objectives determined by the organization.
* Formulate detailed long-range plans for the execution of major software programs, including proposal support, estimation, planning, staffing, and cross-functional coordination while accounting for organizational or programmatic constraints.
* Manage detailed long-range plans for the implementation of software solutions including language, coding, platform, resource requirements, testing, and documentation.
* Plan and manage the deployment of real-time embedded software applications, including cross-platform compliance while ensuring the availability of necessary resources.
* Plan and manage the maintenance of real-time embedded software solutions, including debugging, maintenance, and updates to ensure viability in an evolving environment.
* Independently plan for future applications based on new developments in computer technology.
* Serve as project and/or program spokesperson; act as an independent advisor to executive management, program management, and external customers on software matters.
* Develop executable plans based on strategic direction from executive management, program management, and customers. Flow direction down to subordinate leadership and software developer group(s).
* Provide leadership and act as an advisor for determining technical objectives for user requirements and specifications.
* Oversee and promote the career development of individuals on the team. Provide ongoing guidance for employee growth across a wide spectrum of technical and leadership responsibilities.
* Oversee and promote the career development of future leaders on the team, with a focus on developing future software technical leaders, team leaders, and supervisors.
* Manage team staffing levels in accordance with current and projected demand.
* Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
* Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

* Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex software engineering experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
* Software management experience is required.
* Must have a detailed and extensive expertise of software development concepts, principles, and theory and have applied that knowledge in the development of new principles and concepts.
* Demonstrated project and/or program leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
* Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be an expert in one or more areas of software development.
* Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
* Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced software development problems. Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
* Able to work extended hours as required.
* Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret DoD security clearance is required
